This would be an excellent reference book for a class learning how to do research; as a read on it’s own, it’s rather dry, but that isn’t it’s purpose. I think I probably learned more on organizing a paper from this book than I got out of my college class on the same topic Definitely wish I’d had this to help me through writing papers, not necessaril. Definitely wish I’d had this to help me through writing papers, not necessarily for the technical parts, more for the general basic advice on how to not let a paper overwhelm you.
Go the end of the book, a quote is included that has multiple f bombs the quote does make the authors’ point very well, but lorainee that was the only instance of swearing that I remember from the book it seemed rather out of place. This book was written for U. It’s also slightly dated technology wise, lorzine the advice is still sound. Goodreads helps you keep reseaarch of books you want to read.

Jun 01, Claudia rated it liked it. A good and solid beginners’ book. Readily available to answer any questions koraine novice researcher may entertain. Enjoyable reading and gow better than average bibliography. Beginning researchers can do worse than reading this book.
Jul 06, Deane Barker rated it really liked it. This is a hard book to find. It’s a solid, broad overview of the scholarly research process, from picking a topic, through doing the read, designing the research, collecting data, analyzing it, writing the actual project, and all the things on the tail end that might happen, blxxter a peer review, presentation, etc.
None of this is treated pa This is a reesearch book to find. None of this is treated particularly in-depth, but everything is covered nicely. It’s the view from 50, feet, if you will.

I don’t know that I learned much new from this. Rather, it brought everything I suspect in one place and full circle, and gives you a perspective on a research project, from start to finish. This is for people who simply have no idea where to start or what the process looks like.
I did like the emphasis on picking a topic, and multiple asides on the emotional and mental side of it. A large project is a long, wrenching process for some, a problems like thinking you’re not accomplishing anything, or that other people have already said everything about your research are likely real problems for some people. Put another way, this book doesn’t assume you have your crap together.
It assumes you’re human, fallible, and will probably suck mightily at a lot of things. I give it kudos for that. Sep 17, Kerry rated it it was amazing. Extremely useful, both reassuring and terrifying. Jul 10, Hana Al-Maktoum rated it really liked it. I still think you need further readings to conduct a fine research, yet this book is really good as a start.
Aug 10, Amgad Muhammad rated blacter really liked it. A very abstract researching book. Helpful for any kind of researching you’re trying to do. I think it could have been more focused and direct to ot point. But on the whole that’s a book worth reading. It will introduce you to the main points of researching and it’s methodologies. Feb 16, Angela rated it it was amazing Shelves: It’s written for British people. They have loraind scenarios in there. Otherwise not very helpful.
